protest against rising fuel costs

 OUR AIMS:

As a company that operates HGVs'and vans and we all have personal family cars we have been affected by the rising prices of diesel and petrol, and since Christmas a significant rise in cost is taking its toll.

We need to get the government to actually listen to what is happening to all of us and the difficulties that we are facing. One voice on its own will not be heard but if we all unite together they will have to listen and make changes, as at the end of the day it is us the general public and businesses that pay their wages to act on our behalf for the good of everyone and this is not happening at present.

This webpage is aimed at keeping everyone informed as to what is happening and where.
Also ideas of what you can do to reduce your fuel bill and make saving in other areas too.

All our protests have been discussed and agreed with Norfolk Constabulary and we will continue to keep regular contact with them to make sure that we are keeping within the law.

Please leave your ideas and comments on the blog, all of which will be read.

PROGRESS SO FAR:

The first go slow was organised on the A47 on Monday 12th May starting at 8am, this event was very well attended by hauliers, local businesses and members of the general public who also wanted to show support, we have had very positive feedback since this and have been asked to do another one as some people were not aware of the protest until after the event happened, since this time we have been in contact with the transaction 2007 group and will be liaising with them regarding future protests.

Our vehicles and several others from Norfolk were also present at the protest in London on Tuesday 27th May 2008 which was very well publicised and attended, the petition that transaction 2007 have organised was delivered to 10 Downing Street and has since been a topic of conversation in the Houses of Parliament and also Prime Ministers Question time, so this course of action is beginning to work we need to keep going.

There was another go slow on the A47 on Wednesday 2nd July.  This event was very well supported by hauliers, local businesses and members of the general public.  This was part of a national day of protest and was planned to coincide with the Transaction 2007 protest in London.  Again there has been a lot of positive feedback.

ADVICE:

As a company we used to have fuel cards for all our vehicles which meant we were limited to one garage but we have now changed to credit cards from our bank which gives us the freedom to use the cheapest in the area, we do this by registering with a website called www.petrolprices.com which sends us weekly updates as to which garage has the cheapest fuel price in our area, this can be done for petrol and diesel and can be used by individuals and companies all you need is your postcode and they do the rest by sending you an email each week, you will be surprised at the differences as much as 6p a litre.

You can also make saving in using the Supermarket stations as these normally are cheaper so you are making a saving on your fuel and you can collect the points on your nectar card or club card which will save you money on your weekly food shop, also the supermarkets run promotions that if you spend over a certain amount on food then you get a voucher for 5p off a litre of fuel which can work out to be another good saving.

If more of us use these schemes then the big petrol stations will have to start reducing their prices as fewer people will be using them and they will notice it in their profits.
